Update: Aug 23.
After operation (with some gaps) during Aug 11-16, the wind sensor data flow then again halted completely. Inquiring as to the current status of the sensor and its prior diagnosis/repair, Squamish Terminals replied today only that:
"Technicians are diagnosing and repairing a fault with the station.
Squamish Terminals will be sending out a notification when the station is repaired and back on
line."
Update: Aug 8. Squamish Terminals states that a Fix is in the Works.
Squamish Terminals stated today that:
"AXYS Technology engineers are currently running diagnostics on the station
and will repair/replace as the results indicate. Expect sporadic results for approximately one more week."
Note: Aug 3,2010. Gaps in Weather Station Data.
We've been experiencing frequent and significant gaps from the Weather
Station data source. Such gaps occur sporadically, typically last for more
than an hour, with some lasting as long as 24 hours.
We get the data courtesy of Squamish Terminals (ST) and SiiTech. A break
in either link of this chain of data providers will result in gaps in the
SWS wind graph.
We accumulate the data every few minutes from a SiiTech "Weather Report".
(Normally available by right-clicking on the Squamish Terminals Windsock icon
in their SiiTech's VTSLite application at SiiTech
The Weather Report consists of a table of the last 30-60 minutes of weather data.)
Consequently, when the Weather Report is unavailable, the SWS wind graph will have a
gap, and the cause would naturally appear to be a broken data stream from ST.
According to ST, the weather station's broadcast radio transmissions
of the current weather data have been continuously functioning well.
Also according to ST, the Siitech Weather Report is valuable
for its marine pilots (as they are interested in identifying wind trends using
the 30 minute data). ST reported July 29 that an AIS receiver (and
consequently the feed to SiiTech) has indeed had some problems.
More background on the SWS wind graph is available in its "About" button,
and at the KiteBoardBC Forum under the Announcement titled "SWS Squamish Wind Graph"
