Squamish Windsports Society Shuttle Boat Update

(Revised on: May 24, 2023)

Squamish Windsports Society Shuttle Boat Update

You may have noticed that the Spit Road is now open, but we are not yet running shuttles from the Spit. With the road now ending in the conservation area of the Wildlife Management Area (WMA), there is a review of our operating procedures to determine if our motorized boat will be permitted to operate within the WMA. We are working with the Squamish Nation, District of Squamish and Province to keep that access open to windsports users and other recreationalists, and we respect the process to make that determination. In the meantime, we are very grateful to Squamish Watersports for generously offering their dock for the first two weekends of the season as well as extra shuttles. And now we have a new temporary shuttle point leaving from downtown Squamish.

Interim Downtown shuttle launch from Mamquam Beach in the Blind Channel.

Thanks to the District of Squamish and Matthews West,

Squamish Windsports Society Soft Opening

The wind is here! And the Squamish Windsports Society is working hard to ensure our riders have access to water to start the season.

We will soft open operations for the next two weekends only as we work on permanent access from the new Spit Road end. In the meantime, Squamish Watersports is offering use of their dock in the Blind Channel to shuttle people to the island.

 May 13-14
 May 20-22
Weekday shuttles and jet ski retrievals will not be offered during the week of May 15. We are working hard to open full time operations as quickly as possible.

Our friends and partners at Squamish Watersports have generously offered the use of their dock for us to run the SWS shuttles starting when the wind picks up this weekend.

[POSTPONED] Opening Day Ceremony May 13, 2023

Attention all windsports enthusiasts! The Squamish Windsports Society is thrilled to announce that our season will be opening two days early this year on May 13th, 2023!

To celebrate the opening of the season, we will be hosting an opening ceremony on Spit Island. We will be joined by members of the community and windsports enthusiasts alike to kick off the start of another exciting season.

Following the opening ceremony, we will be holding a gear swap. This is the perfect opportunity to upgrade your equipment or pass on gear you no longer use to someone who will appreciate it. It will also be a great chance to meet other windsport enthusiasts and make some new friends before the season really kicks off.

The Squamish Windsports Society is committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all windsports enthusiasts. Whether you are an experienced rider or just starting out, there is something for everyone. We offer organized events, shuttle and rescue services throughout the season,

Letter from our SWS 2023 President

Dear Members,

I hope you were all able to take advantage of great late season conditions this year, and perhaps have plans to chase the wind off sunnier shores over the winter months. My name is Mike Palethorpe, and you elected me as your new Squamish Windsports Society President for the 2023 season. And I would like to introduce Olivier Corbeil, your new Vice President.

2022 was a year of change and learning for the SWS. With the removal of the Spit Road, we needed to acquire a boat to maintain access to one of the best wind locations on the West Coast. The cost of memberships went up, and we needed to manage our operations and expenses very carefully to end the year in a financially viable position for next year. I want to thank Sean Millington, Nikki Layton, the 2022 SWS Board and staff for their leadership guiding us through rough waters last year.

This winter there is significant work to do to make 2023 a success. We need to partner with the District, Squamish Nation,
